July 2016 saw the 89th edition of Forum Song Contest, held in the town of Schwerin, Germany, after Alvaro Soler's victory in the preceding edition.

28 countries participated, five less than in FSC 88. Austria, Israel, Japan, Spain and the United States all did not send an entry.

Norway emerged as the winner of this edition, thanks to Alan Walker and Iselin Solheim and their song "Sing Me to Sleep" which gathered 141 points. Being nine points behind Norway, South Africa reached the second place. Italy followed more than 40 points behind those two on the third place.

The Host City Edit

Schwerin is the capital and second-largest city of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is the oldest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, being first mentioned in 1018 and having city rights granted in 1160. It is known for its romantic Schwerin Palace, crowning an island in the Lake Schwerin. The city also has a largely intact old town, thanks to only minor damage in the Second World War.
